Are You a Picky Book Lender?

Friday, March 28, 2014

Some people love sharing their books with anyone they come in contact with, while others are extremely selective on the people they lend their books. Which one are you?

Are you a picky book lender?

I have friends who lend out books left and right to whomever wants them, but then there's me. I am a super picky lender. I let maybe five people borrow books from my shelves --that's including my signed copies. Outside of that, you have to really impress me.

I cherish my bookshelves to the point of obsession. My overflowing shelves provide a comfort to me. I'm not kidding. My mom thinks it's weird and so do a few of my friends, but I take really good care of them. Like I mentioned in my last Bookend Friday post, I am a stickler on not cracking spines. So allowing friends to borrow my books and trust that they won't crack the spine or dog-ear the pages is a big deal.

What about you? Are you somewhat selective? Very selective? Or do you give out your books generously?

  1. When it comes to books, my attitude is pretty much: "Get your own copy!" The thought of what someone might do while they're reading one of my books (eat, sit on the toilet, etc.) gives me the willies.

E-books would be different. I don't think I'd hesitate to lend them to people if there were an easy way to do so.
