Amanda's Epic Writing Playlist

Friday, June 13, 2014

Some of you know that I am a writer as well as a reader. Well, this summer is going to be my writing summer. As of next week, I will begin my four week stint of constant writing in order to finish up my fourth novel, and then possibly go back and revise one or two of my other first draft novels. Yeah, I know, that's a lot of work, but that's my goal.

I really want to begin the querying process this fall, so we shall see how all of that works out. So in celebration of that, I want to share a few of my favorite songs that I write to. I rarely can work to songs that have words, so most of my writing music is Latin choir or instrumental soundtracks.

I generally write historical fiction and fantasy, so you will find that my usage of "epic" was not a lie. I really do listen to epic soundtrack music to get my into the world of my characters. ;)

I hope you enjoy this peek into my writing playlist:

Are you a writer? What do you listen to when you write?

  1. I don't have the time to listen to your playlist right now, but I will make sure to later on! I listened to another writer's playlist this morning and it was awesome to get inside their writing head, haha.
I have playlists and certain albums that I listen to when I write my novels. I have a lot of fun picking which songs really get me in the mood for which book, as well :D
For example, Ed Sheeran's album has been my constant companion with my latest novel!
I wish you all the luck with querying, dear! ^.^

  2. I'm such the oddball. I have to have total peace and quiet when I write. Even if I'm just writing a post for the blog, I have to pause the TV, pause iTunes, pause life even! Or else I won't make it past sentence one. I've known for quite some time that my attention span and short term memory are shot to hell. I could be in the middle of a sentence and. . .

I'm very easily distracted. My on-screen keyboard messing up 3 times just now almost made me forget I wanted to say that.

I sometimes have to repeat things over and over just now to stay focused. And if I'm doing that, I can't be singing song lyrics and humming tunes lol.

  3. I'm like Incredibrarian (which means they're not such an oddball after all)! I have a terrible time trying to write (or do anything, really) when there's noise around. In the past, I was able to listen to instrumental or non-English music while working... but I can't even do that anymore.

Which is too bad, because sometimes there are just certain songs that go with certain scenes, and it would be nice to be able to listen to them while writing to get the mood right.

  4. I also write fantasy, so I love movie soundtracks - the more epic, the better. (My favorites are Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, Gladiator, Braveheart, etc.) I also listen to a lot of Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding, OneRepublic, and Lorde.

    1. Those are great soundtracks! And I love all the bands! :)

  5. I love writing to Of Monsters and Men or Imagine Dragons!
