The Glass Casket by McCormick Templeman (Snow White)

The Mirk and the Midnight Hour by Jane Nickerson (Tam Lin fairytale)

Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson (Bluebeard fairytale)

If you want a list of more retellings, Epic Reads made a really cool flow chart of all the retellings in YA that you can find here.

What are your favorite retellings, and what would you recommend to people who haven't read them?

  1. Retellings, eh? I think some of my top recommendations would be:

Beauty by Robin McKinley ("Beauty and the Beast")
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine ("Cinderella")
Fire & Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones ("Tam Lin" and "Thomas the Rhymer")
Briar Rose by Jane Yolen ("Sleeping Beauty")

I've heard about those two Jane Nickerson books on your list. I'd like to give them a try!

    1. Haha Beauty, Ella Enchanted, and Briar Rose were all on my list until I filtered it!! Those are great!!!

  2. I really enjoyed the PJO series. Greek Mythology is fascinating! I've heard mixed reviews about Cruel Beauty but definitely still want to check it out :)

    Here's My TTT :)

    1. I love mythology period. It is extremely fascinating. Cruel Beauty definitely does have mixed reviews. And I even feel mixed on it despite my 4-star rating. It's hard to read if people don't like slightly convoluted books. It's beautiful and rich and dark and deep, but it definitely does not cater to everyone's tastes! Loved your TTT!

  3. I've been wanting to read Cruel Beauty for a while. And the Percy Jackson series.

I have read Hood! I love that book. Anything Robin Hood is always good.

    1. When you read Cruel Beauty, take it for what it is and don't go into it with any expectations. That's a forewarning. It's a beautiful book albeit a bit convoluted and confusing at times but none the less beautiful.

And Robin Hood, ugh my first love. I will forever thank Kevin Costner for my love of Robin Hood lol!

  4. Entwined by Heather Dixon is one of my favorite retellings! She took the story of the Twelve Dancing Princesses and made it lovely. It's what helped me fall in love with retellings. There are a lot of books on your list I need to check out.
