Top Ten Books I Would Read in My Hypothetical Book Club

Tuesday, January 27, 2015
As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish.

1. Blezhar by Meg Wolitzer.
I would probably add Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar along with this one.
2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
3. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
4. Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley

5. Noggin by John Corey Whaley
Because this guy is seriously amazing!
6. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
this book is so chalk full of everything that needs to be discussed. I love it.

7. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Because this book should be discussed in every book club ever
8. A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin
Everyone needs a little more Jon Snow in their lives and Tyrion's snark.
9. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
10. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.

What books would you have in your hypothetical (or possibly non-hypothetical) book club?

  1. Game of Thrones would give you more than enough to talk about. All those characters, details and the world-building, I can see myself talk about that for some hours :D

  2. Daughter of Smoke and Bone FOR SURE! The ending of Dreams of Gods and Monsters had me thinking for weeks :D

*hides* I still haven’t read any of the Game of Thrones books. They’re just so big! And the font is tiny for these poor eyes :P

  3. I NEED to read DoSaB! I'm not sure how I feel about E&P so that's definitely a good one to discuss :D

  4. I think if I read Speak in a group, I probably would have liked it more, but I really just hated that book. I couldn't get behind the writing style.

  5. I kind of wish I could join a book club... maybe I should check it out and see if there are any in my area open for new peeps. That would be cool. Anywhoozle, these are some great picks! I would like to read 'Belzhar', 'Game of Thrones' (started but never finished) and 'Eleanor & Park' (which I have sitting on my shlef :D). I haven't read anything by John Corey Whaley, though! Might have to try him out...eventually!

  6. That last row! I've never read any of the books but I either want to or just love the covers. I've really been wanting to read The Game of Thrones. It will happen one day.

I'm not part of a book club. But if I was I would want to read to them Icefall by Matthew J. Kirby.

    1. AHH! I seriously just got that book over break! I can't wait to read it! :)

  7. I've seen Outlander a couple of times today, and it's one I'm interested in starting, so that's promising!!

    My TTT:

    1. It's definitely a book worthy of a discussion. There's a lot of things (and not all good things) that happen in that book!

  8. Ooh I am loving your choices, Amanda! I think I'd put Belzhar on my book club list too because I'd love to rant all my hate for that book, hah.

    Excellent list! <33

    1. Oh wow, really? I haven't read belzhar yet, but I want to because I REALLY love Sylvia Plath. We will have to see though.

  9. I read Speak in my YA Lit class in college and we had a lot of really great discussions about it. Outlander and A Game of Thones would be interesting, too, since both of them have some content that people have different opinions on (violence, etc.).
