As You Wish by Cary Elwes

As You Wish. Such an iconic line in cinema and in literature. From the young age of 12 when my dad introduced me to his all-time favorite movie The Princess Bride, I have fallen in love with this movie many times over, and as an adult, I love it even more! So when Cary Elwes wrote As You Wish, I knew I HAD to read it and even more when I heard that he narrated it along with Chris Sarandon, Wally Shawn, Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin and all the other people on cast and crew for the movie.

To say that this book exceeded my expectations is nothing short of surprising because my expectations were relatively high. I loved listening to what happened behind the scenes and then watching the movie with completely new eyes. It was wonderful and glorious, and helped me remember all the great times I had with my family, especially experiencing this book during a very dark season of my life when my mom passed away. It was a sparkle of light in the darkness and brought a little more magic and love to are a rather gloomy time.

I gave this book 5 stars.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling

This book. This book right here! I LOVED it! It’s a book that I think every 20-something should read! It’s inspiring, witty, and utterly hilarious! It was so easy to listen to! I listened to it while cooking, cleaning, getting ready in the morning, every stinking minute I had, I listened to this lovely, yet relatively short book on audio.

Mindy Kaling is as hilarious in this book as she is in the Mindy Project! So if that’s something that you enjoy, this is an absolute MUST! I also found it interesting because I have a roommate who is Indian, and it was wonderful because we both listened to this book at the same time, and I found her explaining more things about her culture in relation to Mindy’s lovely work! It was so cool to listen to and also get to know my roommate a bit better along the way.

I highly recommend this book on audio, so go out and buy it NOW!

I gave this book 5 stars.

You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day

I immediately bough this book when it came out. I love Felicia Day in everything she stars, so I figured I would love this book to bits. Though, Felicia is hilarious and witty, and so nerdy and quirky, I was oddly disappointed by this book. I don’t know why exactly… maybe it was because I had just finished Mindy Kaling’s book, but this one didn’t particularly tickle my fancy sadly.

Maybe it was just because I absolutely adored Kaling’s book, and I was subconsciously comparing the two. But I will say that it was cool how Felicia went in to how she started up in the movie and internet business. I mean she was a front runner in the world of internet famous people, so that was pretty cool.

If you like quirky, nerdy autobiographies, this might be to your taste, but for some reason it just didn’t really fit well with me at the time I read it.

I gave this book 2.5 stars.

  1. I have a copy of Felicia Day's book -- too bad it didn't work for you! I hope I have a better go at it!

    1. Yeah! I hope it works out for you... I just don't think I read it at a good time. I know a lot of people who liked it!

  2. I just got Is Everyone Hanging out without me? on audio and I am super excited to start it. I will be doing that on my way into work tonight. I just started watching The Mindy Project and it is pretty funny. :D

    1. Oh I hope you love it as much as I did!!! I love Mindy Project! It's hilarious, and this book was perfect! :)
