The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

I was totally feeling like a faery book, especially after I read ACOTAR. I know nothing can even compare to the amazingness that is ACOTAR, but I didn't care. I NEEDED to read something else about faeries, not only that but I also needed to do a bit of research and read more faerie books. Everyone always said how much they love Julie Kagawa. I met her at North Texas Teen Book Festival and she was adorable and so very sweet, so I'm used to urban fairy tales, but this book was interesting. It didn't capture me. The main character just seemed like she was in denial half the time, and I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that characters could be so far into it without seeing the logical signs that point to NeverNever or faerieland or whatever they call it. To me, this book was frustrating. I;m not saying it was a total shit-fest, but it just really wasn't a book for me.

I gave this book 1 star.

Make You Mine by Jackie Ashenden

I got this book off of NetGalley, because I needed a fluff read in my otherwise very heavy reading list that I had been working through at the time. What I found was this wasn't your average fluff read. Yes, it had romance, but there were some really hard topics addressed in this book, and I honestly don't think they were addressed very well. I don't want to give anything away, but I feel like it's important for readers to know that this may have some triggers for people who have experienced being sexually assaulted. Overall, the writing was good, but it was the characters I didn't quite connect with. I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I gave this book 2 stars.

Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover

All of you guys know how much of a CoHo fan I am. I have given five stars to every book of her I've read. I knew I needed to finally read the complementary novella, Maybe Not, before I started Confess, so I bought it and was ready to be blown away yet again... but sadly, that was not the case.

Though I actually liked Warren in Maybe Someday--I thought he was hilarious--but I felt like this novella could have been a little more integrated with Maybe Someday and it would have been even more amazing than it was. I feel like the sexiness of Warren and Bridgette's story would have been more evened out by Ridge and Sydney's love story. Warren and Bridgette's relationship is an odd one. It's based nearly entirely on sexual interest, but then there are some good moments and some really funny ones peppered through this novella that in my opinion kinda saves it. Even still, this book kinda fell flat for me. I felt like it was just more of a reason to write smut than anything else. I still love CoHo, it's just that this novella wasn't entirely my thing.

I gave this book 2 stars.
