Review: The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski

Thursday, April 2, 2015
Why I chose this book:
This book has been in my TBR since I finished The Winner's Curse last year. I have been dying to read it. I fell so madly in love with Arin and Kestrel, and I didn't care who knew it! So needless to say, I preordered the audiobook and devoured it in two days.

Synopsis:
The engagement of Lady Kestrel to Valoria's crown prince means one celebration after another. But to Kestrel it means living in a cage of her own making. As the wedding approaches, she aches to tell Arin the truth about her engagement...if she could only trust him. Yet can she even trust herself? For--unkown to Arin--Kestrel is becoming a skilled practitioner of deceit: an anonymous spy passing information to Herran, and close to uncovering a shocking secret.

As Arin enlists dangerous allies in the struggle to keep his country's freedom, he can't fight the suspicion that Kestrel knows more than she shows. In the end, it might not be a dagger in the dark that cuts him open, but the truth. And when that happens, Kestrel and Arin learn just how much their crimes will cost them. (Goodreads)

Why I chose this book:
For months, everyone who is anyone has been telling me to read this book. Becca from Pivot Book Reviews almost walked out on our coffee date when she heard that I had not read it. So I finally succumbed to the peer-pressure and got the audiobook. My mind is now officially overrun with everything that is The Winner’s Curse.

Why I chose this book:
I am so wary about hype. Let me tell you, if you are anywhere near anything bookish, you've definitely heard about this book. This book was campaigned like crazy. This made me nervous, since The Fifth Wave had a similar craze to it only to be a huge let down. Despite this, I trusted the opinion of popular bloggers and took the plunge. I was definitely pleased with the outcome.
