Review: Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman

Thursday, March 5, 2015
Why I chose this book:
I listened to Seraphina on audiobook last year and fell in love with all things dragon. Rachel Hartman won me over with her kingdom of Goredd, her spunky half-dragon protagonist, and her fabulous world building skills. Then, like the rest of the book world, I settled down for the loooonnnngg wait for Book II. When I saw that it was being released for as an ARC, I blew up Amanda's phone begging her to get it for me. Luckily, I was graced with this book and ate it up in less than five days (which is saying a lot, because it's as big as a brick).

Why I chose this book:
After devouring Red Rising, the first book in this trilogy, I became an instant, and rather rabid, fanatic. So, when the lovely and gracious Amanda dangled before me the idea of an ARC to review, I could hardly keep my giddy joy at bay.

Why I Chose this Book:
So, I’m a sucker for dystopias. Science-fiction? Hand it over. Science-fiction riddled dystopias set on Mars? Get out of my way. I was intrigued by this book to say the least, and by the time I put it down, I was fangirling like a maniac.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Publisher: Del Ray (Random House)
Publish Date: January 28th, 2014
Format: ARC
Genre: Adult, Young Adult, Science Fiction
Synopsis:
The Earth is dying. Darrow is a Red, a miner in the interior of Mars. His mission is to extract enough precious elements to one day tame the surface of the planet and allow humans to live on it. The Reds are humanity's last hope.

Or so it appears, until the day Darrow discovers it's all a lie. That Mars has been habitable - and inhabited - for generations, by a class of people calling themselves the Golds. A class of people who look down on Darrow and his fellows as slave labour, to be exploited and worked to death without a second thought.

Until the day that Darrow, with the help of a mysterious group of rebels, disguises himself as a Gold and infiltrates their command school, intent on taking down his oppressors from the inside. But the command school is a battlefield - and Darrow isn't the only student with an agenda. (Goodreads)
